Made slowly, on purpose

I grew up in Istanbul, a city that hasn't hurried in about two thousand years and has no plans to start. Turkish cotton wasn't a trend there. It was just what towels were made of. Nobody bragged about it.

Then I became a project manager. Gantt charts. Deadlines. Status meetings about status meetings. I got very, very good at making things go faster.

Replenish is the opposite of that.

I started it in New York in 2021, armed with a project manager's love of spreadsheets and a growing suspicion that the softest things in life can't be rushed. So we don't rush them. Our towels and throws are woven on treadle looms, the old kind, powered by hands and feet. Our robes and loungewear are cut from Turkish cotton muslin: airy layers of gauze that breathe in summer, stay cozy in winter and get softer with every single wash. We have tested this. Extensively. On ourselves.

Who is "we"? Me, in Brooklyn, and our production team in Türkiye, who happen to be all women. They weave, they sew, they hand-knot every fringe, and they have opinions about cotton that would make a wine sommelier blush. My job is mostly to stay out of their way and make sure your box leaves Brooklyn within two business days.

A few house rules:

• We keep the collection small. A robe you wear every morning for ten years beats five you forget in a drawer.
• Nothing fluffy for the sake of fluffy. Light, breathable, honest cotton.
• A real person answers every email. Usually me. Usually with a coffee.
